I'm in love with a robot

Remixes of Röyksopp's "The Girl and the Robot" have come to us. So far, the best seems to be Joakim's remix. Oh, and guess what? He's another French remixer. All the remixes I've been into these days seem to be produced by French people. But I guess that's besides the point.

This remix takes different parts of the song and mixes them up while adding external drums and beats. The best part of it is when Robyn's voice is overlapped multiple times in the middle of the song.

No You Girls

Danish artist, Trentemøller, did a sweet remix of Franz Ferdinand's "No You Girls." The remix starts out kind of simple but builds up really well and gets kind of intriguingly creepy. It's worth a full listen or two. Check it out below.

Dark Night of the Soul

Danger Mouse has combined forces with Sparklehorse to create the emotional and interesting album, Dark Night of the Soul. The album contains guest musicians such as: Julian Casablancas (The Strokes), all of the Flaming Lips, Nina Persson (Cardigans), Iggy Pop, James Mercer (the Shins), Frank Black (the Pixies) and more. Apparently due to legal issues with EMI, Danger Mouse is releasing a blank, recordable CD-R with a book full of visuals by David Lynch, all of which were inspired by the music. The blank CD is supposed to encourage fans to download the music online from any source and record it themselves onto the CD. It's all in the hands of the trusty internet now.

So far, the first song, "Revenge", has wrenched my heart. Wayne Coyne (the Flaming Lips) provides the vocals. It could possibly contain all the Flaming Lips but I can't find any official information to back that up. It's a slow melody that kind of reminds me of Air's "Playground Love" and Radiohead's "Talk Show Host" combined together; very nice. The next song that has really stood out to me is "Little Girl", which features Julian Casablancas (the Strokes). Maybe it's because I'm nostalgic for the slightly unenthusiastic voice of Casablancas but whatever it is, it feels really good to hear his voice mutter realistically sad lyrics in my ears, again.

You can stream the whole album here. Also, I've provided two downloads below.

Only if you're a little bit...

It's been waaaaay too long since my last blog post. I don't know why but the new music I've listened to these days hasn't inspired any blogging on my part, unfortunately. Instead, I've been listening to this remix of Lykke Li's "Little Bit" a fair amount (yes, this is another Lykke Li remix post). In my opinion, Aether's remix of "Little Bit" is the best remix of this song out there so far. I discovered it a long time ago but I was more into the dance remixes around that time. This song is more "sway your head" over "move your body" danceable. It's definitely nice to chill out to while moving through transit.

As for Aether, I couldn't get much info on this artist. It seems to be a solo artist from San Antonio, Texas. You can hear one of his original songs here and the Lykke Li remix below.

So knock me out and shoot me down

Finally, a "Gifted" remix! N.A.S.A. came out with the Spirit of Apollo a couple of months ago and I've been patiently waiting for some "Gifted" remixes. Now, I'm satisfied. There's another remix out there by Aston Shuffle, which is also really good but I can't find a link to an mp3. If you want to hear it, it's posted on their myspace page.

In the Aoki remix, Kanye West dominates the majority of the song. Around 3 minutes of the song, Aoki brings in Lykke Li and Santogold, which I think is the best part. Overall, it's gonna be a great remix for the dance floor. The song was already good for the dance floor but now no one can deny playing it for the dance fiends.

Shooting Stars

I had no idea that the Bag Raiders' remix of Chromeo's "Call Me Up" was more of a mash-up than a remix. Literally a minute ago, I listened to "Shooting Stars" by the Bag Raiders and it's the exact same instrumentals as their remix of "Call Me Up", just with different lyrics. I'm very impressed with the "mash-up/remix" (or whatever you wanna call it) and the original. So here is the original and here is the link to my post with the remix of "Call Me Up". Both are very elating.

We're looking for a lot of love

"Every time that we walk the streets / I try my best to keep up with the beat"

I wish I could get my hands on the Hot Chip album with Robert Wyatt and Geese. I've heard the remix of "We're Looking for a lot of Love" and I can't stop listening to it today. This could be due to the rain and excessive amounts of commuting. But either way, it's a really good remix that you should check out. When comparing it to the original, the Geese remix has less of an obvious drumbeat to it. The original has a pretty steady, subtle beat throughout the whole song. But this makes the remix slower and, I think, more emotional. Robert Wyatt's voice seems to attribute more passion and meaning to the song as well. Check it out for yourselves.
